Sitemaker CMS
CIP Sitemaker in the Classroom
Teachers can use SitemakerSM as an instructional medium. Each student has a web site; the teacher acts as "supereditor" with access to all student sites. Bulk pricing makes it affordable.

Use Sitemaker in English, foreign languages*, civics, history, geography, other social sciences, physical science where reports are required. Use your imagination: Anywhere writing is required as part of a course, Sitemaker lets students and teachers interact, comment, revise...

When the teacher and student agree, the student's work is published as a permanent record of the work. The site can be public or private. The student can subscribe independently at the end of the course and retain ownership of the body of work (depending on the service agreement between Clark IP and the institution).

All teacher and student sites have the full range of Sitemaker services, including article lists, gallery, calendar, graphics and full use of the Editing Suite. Virtually no technical skills are required to use the system; students at the high school level and beyond can be trained to produce articles proficiently in under one hour. Notwithstanding this simplicity, the system allows a skilled HTML user to produce widely varied formats easily, with automated, consistent application of layouts, colors, fonts, navigation, etc., throughout the site.

Group Management

To get started, the teacher orders a quantity of Sitemaker sites (e.g., 20). We'll designate the teacher as a "manager" with access to all the related sites via a single login. Each student will also have a separate login.

The teacher also has a site where he/she can assign tasks and present required materials. A calendar can be activated on the teacher's site with start and end dates for projects.

Student Activities

Each student is given a personal site, similar to a magazine. Each written assignment can be satisfied with the completion of one or more articles.

The teacher and the student can exchange ideas about each article before it is "published" or submitted for final consideration and grading, depending on policies and procedures set by the teacher. Sitemaker itself imposes no procedural constraints on the relationship between student and teacher.

Prior to "publication" each article is invisible to the world; a password is required for login. Depending on how the sites are managed, they may or may not be indexed by search engines once the article is switched to its visible state.
